The difference between a bootable clone and TM is TM is not a bootable drive. In addition to using Time Machine I use another external HD and create a bootable clone using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. ![]() What I (and a lot of others do) is use a redundant backup plan. Getting data from your old drive may be done from a data recovery service however these tend to be very expensive. I would recommend any of the external HD's from my previous post. If you don't need a new router then IMHO it's a waste of money. If you are also in need of a new router then it's a great solution. Other than the expense of a Time Capsule I think it's a good solution.
